Iowa State & Federal Courts

  • Iowa Courts - State of Iowa Courts; if you are charged with a crime under Iowa state law, your case will be under the jurisdiction of an Iowa Court.
  • Iowa Supreme Court - if you are convicted of a criminal offense, an appeal may be furthered to the Iowa Supreme Court.
  • U.S. Courts - if you are charged with a Federal crime, your case will be under the jurisdiction of a Federal Court. Federal Courts are called U.S. District Courts. In some cases, charges may be brought under both Federal and State law, and can be tried in both if a stipulation isn't reached by your attorney with the prosecuting attorney to try it in one or the other court.
